Absence of Evidence An Examination of the Michelle Young Murder Case True Crime eBook Lynne Blanchard
Once again, Lynne Blanchard does the tedious work the prosecutors should have done prior to seeking a murder charge.Michelle Young, a beautiful mother and wife, was brutally beaten to death and the police immediately suspected her husband, Jason Young. Unfortunately for the police and prosecutors, there was no evidence of Jason's involvement, but they pursued him regardless. The circumstantial evidence in this case barely rises to the level of coincidental. I am not sure what is more appalling, that the prosecutors moved forward with this case with so little "evidence" or that 12 jurors were able to convict Jason Young. Lynne does an excellent job of presenting and analyzing the facts of the case. If you are going to charge people based on suspicion and coincidence in this case, there is another much more compelling individual to pursue.

Absence of Evidence An Examination of the Michelle Young Murder Case True Crime eBook Lynne Blanchard Reviews
I'd give this more stars if I could. It's very disturbing when an author investigates a case better than law enforcement. It's very disturbing that a large percentage of the American people believe that if a prosecutor and law enforcement say a person is guilty, then they must be. Jurors should be administered IQ tests.
The author investigated this murder far better than the police did, and I'm a LEO fan. This chronicle and expose' will fascinate and appall. There are too many unanswered questions and unexplored inconsistencies in this case. I highly recommend this for all true crime fans and armchair detectives.
Very interesting well written book. Lots of detailed information.read this in 2days, was hard to put down.
With all the statements given by the sister and all the evidences proven to be lies, this reader does not understand why the husband is in prison and awaiting another trial. There was no evidence presented during the entire book that makes this reader understand this action other than complete ignoring of facts that the author gave the reader. Other than that, this book was written very well and should keep a true crime reader's interest. From beginning to end!
Interesting way of presenting the story. It was nice for a change not having the narrative be the principals.
I hope there is a follow-up to this that can punish the murderer.
Once again author, Lynne Blanchard , has exposed the tunnel vision that is prevalent in the.investigative units and court systems in Wake County, North Carolina.
Mrs. Blanchard painstakingly describes all of the evidence, much of it missed by detectives, who, apparently, had already decided Jason Young was guilty and looked no further.
She points out the inconsistencies in the testimony and the conclusions detectives came to without any proof and who failed to identify other suspects. Witnesses were either coerced to change the time line of their observations or, else, were not called at trial. Blanchard offers other possibilities and reveals testaments that changed from one conversation to another.
The judicial system denied the defendant his right to a fair trial by allowing the prosecution to enter into evidence testimony that NC Statutes did not allow.
Anyone who has any interest in making sure there is actually 'justice for all'- especially in NC, should read this book. The injustices committed against Mr. Young are almost unbelievable. I've recently done quite a bit of research on wrongful convictions in NC, so I wasn't surprised to discover that several of the discredited SBI Agents from the state crime lab played a role in this case. Very few people are aware of the massive scandal at the NC SBI Crime Lab in 2010 that hit the news shortly after the exoneration of Gregory Taylor. It was revealed that a number of agents had engaged in a pattern of withholding test results favorable to the defendant over a 16 year period. Although the SBI testimony given at Mr. Young's trial may not have played a significant role in his wrongful conviction, their false testimony has led to a number of wrongful convictions that resulted in exonerations. The state has paid millions of dollars to settle wrongful conviction lawsuits- and the 'exonerees' deserve every penny. No amount of money can replace the years they have lost. That being said, I was quite surprised to discover video coverage from the Jason Young trial on YouTube that included the testimony of two of the four agents investigated and suspended for misconduct in 2010 (perjury, withholding and falsifying serology and DNA evidence). So much for 'credible witnesses'....It seems that the credibility standards for expert witnesses in NC are so low that publicly discredited experts employed by the state can regain their 'credibility' no matter what they've done. The criminal justice system is so broken and probably always will be unless people become aware of the massive miscarriages of justice that are taking place within our court system and demand answers and accountability for those who have caused them. I think this book is very informative and well-written. It is also a step in the right direction to help expose the truth about the crisis that pervades our court system.
